What sort of work might I be doing?
The work will depend upon the needs of the organisation you are working with, but they are committed to ensuring that the experience is valuable to you and your long term career objectives. Examples include:
- Helping to develop Local Transport Plans and transport policies
- Working with schools and businesses to encourage them to use modes other than the car
- Working on a survey of transport users
- Forecasting the transport needs arising from a local development such as a supermarket
- Developing or using a computer model of road traffic, buses and railways
- Working on an analysis of bus services, and stopping places
- Assessing the impacts of a local congestion charge
- Optimising traffic signal settings
- Participating in the design of road junctions
You will also learn about office practice, and experience working with other professionals. You may well have also opportunities to participate in project meetings, to meet with clients and to contribute to preparing formal reports.
The deadline for applications has now passed. Details of the 2009 scheme will be available from November 2008.
